Military themes are very common in the genealogy magazine market. On Your Family Tree we try to have three military covers every year – as almost every reader has ancestors who fought in their tree. There are always new records being released and therefore even expert genealogists need help on how to use these.

This October issue – on sale now – is an extra special edition. It’s been put together to celebrate Armistice Day (November 11) and to help us to remember the brave souls who fought and fell in World War One.

I wanted to do these brave souls justice and have the issue jump out from the news stand at the same time. With the help of author and historian Paul Reed – the expert behind GreatWarPhotos.com and ww2battlefields.com – I found some haunting, nostalgic WW1 imagery. The red border and green colouring complements the poppy and military feel. This colouring and theme runs through the corresponding feature as well.

If you’d like to see more you can order digitally on the iPad/iPhone/iPodTouch from www.yourfamilytreemag.co.uk/digital, or you can find the issues in the YFT Facebook shop.
